Australians are being warned over the latest email scam which impersonates popular retailer Harvey Norman and claims the recipient has won a competition they don't remember entering. The bogus email claims to be from the head of customer service at Harvey Norman and includes links encouraging the recipient to click to confirm their competition ID and verify personal details. The email advises it has unsuccessfully been trying to get in touch with competition winners via phone calls and apologises for the late delivery of the alleged prize.
Email states hat, perhaps it has been lost in the corona stress of recent month.
Scamwatch is warning people not to fall for the email and is urging people to just delete it. The reason you don’t remember entering is that it never happened.
Harvey Norman also cautioned followers on Facebook not to click on the email links and encouraged recipients to report any suspicious emails to Scamwatch.
The ACCC Scamwatch site says identity theft scams cost Australians $4.3 million dollars in 2019 and emails are the second most popular choice for scammers to try and contact their targets. Scamwatch advised those who receive the email to simply delete it.
