Star attorney Amal Clooney has resigned from her post as the UK Special Envoy on Freedom of the Press. It is reacting to the British government's deplorable plan to violate international law in the dispute over Brexit. Hollywood actor George Clooney's wife said on Friday that she had no choice.
The government did not want to assure her that it would deviate from this point of view, according to a letter from the British-Lebanese human rights lawyer to Foreign Minister Dominic Raab.
The background to this is the government's plans for a single market law that would partially nullify the Brexit treaty negotiated with the EU in 2019. The government had admitted that the plans would in part violate international law. Brussels speaks of a breach of law and calls for the controversial clauses to be withdrawn by the end of September. London is pushing the adoption forward.
