On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump fired Christopher Krebs, who was the director of the country's national information security and security infrastructure agency, which reports to the Department of Homeland Security. Krebs, a highly respected member of the Trump administration had rejected the president's objections about alleged fraud during the November 3 elections which Trump is pursuing without any evidence and instead supported the regularity of the elections.
Krebs said a few days ago that he expected to be fired precisely for claiming that the elections had not had problems and therefore went against Trump's positions. His dismissal comes a week after that of the secretary of defense, Mark Esper with whom the president had been on bad terms for months.
In the past few hours, there have been many demonstrations of solidarity towards Krebs, especially from members of the Democrats. Spokesman for President-elect Joe Biden , Michael Gwin, commented that Chris Krebs should be commended for his service in protecting the election not fired for telling the truth. Nebraska Republican Senator Ben Sasse, who is a Trump critic also said that Krebs did a great job and obviously he shouldn't be fired.
