EU Agree on WTO head to support candidates other than Myung-hee

AFP news agency reported that EU member states have agreed to support Nigeria's candidate Okonjoyweala in the election for the secretary general of the World Trade Organization (WTO) on the 26th.


According to AFP, the EU is expected to publicly release a statement of support for Candidate Okhonjoyweala on the 27th. The ambassadors of EU member states met on this day to reach an agreement on the preferred candidate among the candidates for Okon Joyweala with the head of Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Myung-hee Myung-hee, who entered the finals.


Although no agreement was reached at the first meeting, it was reported that the support for Candidate Okonjoyweala was solidified at later meetings. One European source called for seven countries to record in a statement that they preferred Yu, but others noted that supporting Okonjoyweala was a clear signal to Africa and a sign of mutual trust Told. Nigerian candidate Okonjoyweala served as Nigerian Finance and Foreign Minister and Executive Director of the World Bank.


Director Yoo was the first Korean to advance to the finals in this WTO secretary general election. Recently, President Moon Jae-in and Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun have appealed to other countries leaders for support by phone calls or letters.


Since the 19th, the WTO has been conducting a final preference survey on 164 member states for Yoo and Candidate Okonjoyweala. The investigation is scheduled until the 27th. The secretary general will be elected next month through the process of consensus before November 7th, the deadline for election.
