A former Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier was on Wednesday busted attempting to scam two unsuspecting victims. Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) ambushed him at Gallas Resort in Machakos County.
Acting on a tip-off, Mlolongo-based detectives in company of a Military Police Corporal pounced on the suspect–Washington Mutinda Mutuku- confiscating from him two suspected forged calling letters for the ongoing KDF recruitment and Ksh. 180,000, the DCI said on Twitter.
The suspect is alleged to have had masqueraded as a senior KDF commander who was actively in the line of duty. Investigations have begun to verify the authenticity of the calling letters, their source and other accomplices that may be involved in the scam.
The DCI has cautioned members of the public to beware of tricksters who swindle unsuspecting victims, especially in the ongoing KDF and upcoming NPS recruitment exercises.
The DCI said, both giving and taking bribe are illegalities that will be met with the full force of the law.
