PMO: The Golan Heights will forever remain part of the State of Israel

The Golan Heights will forever remain a part of the State of Israel, the Israeli prime minister's office said in a statement on Tuesday, responding to the US secretary of state who suggested in a statement on Monday that it could switch.

On Monday evening, Antony Blinken said in an interview with US broadcaster CNN that Israel's control of the Golan Heights was very important for its security under current conditions. As long as (Bashar al-) Assad is in power in Syria, as long as Iran is present in Syria and as long as there are militias supported by Iran, all of this poses a threat to the security of Israel . Therefore, control of the Golan is of real importance for the security of the court. Legal issues are another topic. And over time, if things were to change in Syria, it is (Israel's control of the Golan Heights) something we would look into.

US President Joe Biden, who has started talks with various world leaders, has not yet spoken with Benjamin Netanyahu.

The Israeli prime minister said Monday evening he expects the new White House tenant to call him soon and they will meet when the latter begins contacting Middle East leaders, according to the order he will deem appropriate. And the fact that Biden has not yet contacted Netanyahu is not a sign of a breakdown in US-Israel relations.
