Ukraine ranked fifth in the list of countries whose residents consider themselves unhappy. This was announced on January 13 by the Democratic Initiatives Foundation, which conducted a survey jointly with the Kiev International Institute of Sociology. 35% of those who took part in the study called themselves unhappy. The Gallup International survey has been initiated by Dr. George Gallup since 1977. This year, the study was conducted in 41 countries around the world. 54% of the respondents in the countries where the study was conducted answered that they consider themselves happy, 14% say that they are unhappy. 31% consider themselves neither happy nor unhappy. The corresponding average index is 40%, the report noted. In Ukraine, it is slightly lower than in the world as a whole (below the so-called world happiness index), in addition, Ukraine shows a sharp drop compared to last year: in 2019 - 33%, in 2020 - 14%. However, this index is still higher than in 2018, when it was 8%, the fund said. In the ranking of unfortunate countries, the leaders are: North Macedonia, Ghana, Hong Kong, Armenia and Ukraine. The happiest countries are Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Ecuador, Colombia, Azerbaijan. The survey was conducted in early December 2020 by telephone interviews using a computer based on a random sample that is representative of the adult population of Ukraine. Inhabitants of the occupied territories of Ukraine did not take part in the survey. During the survey, 1,000 interviews were conducted. The statistical error of the sample does not exceed 3.5%, sociologists noted.
