We Need To Address The Shortcomings In The Centre's Agricultural Law - Uddhav Thackeray

The central government has recently enacted three laws related to agriculture. Errors and omissions in this law need to be recited. The suggestions made by the farmers' representatives in connection with these laws will be discussed, said Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. Representatives of various farmers associations met at the Sahyadri Guest House in the presence of the Chief Minister to discuss the Central Government's laws on agriculture and marketing and decide on a policy.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Minister Balasaheb Thorat, Ashok Chavan, Chhagan Bhujbal, Jayant Patil, Dadaji Bhuse, Sunil Kedar, Balasaheb Patil, Principal Advisor Ajoy Mehta, Additional Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Ashish Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister. Vikas Kharge, Principal Secretary, Marketing Department, Anup Kumar, Secretary, Agriculture Department, Eknath Dowle were present.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said, Our role is to come together for the benefit of farmers, regardless of which party we belong to. You are not against the central government. But we do not want to blindly support these laws. Errors and omissions in these laws need to be rectified. Before enacting these laws, it was necessary to take everyone into confidence and at least discuss with the farmers' organizations in advance. We are not against development or reform. However, there was a need to exchange experiences on implementation of various previous laws relating to farmers, he said, referring to flaws in the Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme.
Our country is the largest agricultural country in the world. Even after the Green Revolution, farmers are committing suicide. Laws also need to be amended from time to time to make the breadwinner happy. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray also said
that further decision regarding the law will be taken in the state by preparing a plan considering the suggestions and opinions put forward by the representatives of farmers' associations .
Agricultural courts should be set up, market committees should be strengthened, protection of guaranteed prices should not be taken away as farmers get fair prices, state government should enact more laws to protect farmers, contract farming is likely to be fraudulent, no one can buy farm produce below guaranteed price. Representatives of farmers' associations suggested that such a provision should be made and a roadmap for marketing should be prepared.
